Université Paris-Sud warmly welcomed its international students

Welcome Day took place on Saturday 6 October, a day for international students coming to Université Paris-Sud this year. More than 200 students made the trip for this day of celebration and meeting.

With 71 nationalities represented, Welcome Day 2018 organised on Saturday 6 October made it clear that the international presence at Paris-Sud was an actual reality. The enrolled students also came to take a Bachelor’s or Master’s or a technical course. Another proof of diversity: all areas of Université Paris-Sud were involved, a sign that all disciplines are now open to international tracks.

Welcomed from 16.30 p.m., the students were firstly able to discover Université Paris-Sud and its areas through dedicated stands where fun and interactive activities awaited them.

For example, a large audience crowded around the Faculty of Sciences’ stand to attend a molecular cooking demonstration given by Raphaël Haumont, a researcher-lecturer in physical chemistry of materials and a lecturer at Université Paris-Sud (Orsay), who founded the French Centre of Culinary Innovation with the chef Thierry Marx. The inflatable structure set up in front of the Jean Monnet Faculty stand was also a great success, where students had a great time dashing off into a “race for degrees”. For its part, the model set up at the Faculty of Medicine’s stand continuously went from life to death, relentlessly resuscitated by enthusiastic, but diligent students.

Many University services were also present, such as Student Services Department, the International Relations Department or even the Careers Guidance and Business Relations Department. In this way, the students were able to find out about the practical details (study options, student life, sports, arts and culture, education, etc.) of their lives at Paris-Sud, form new relationships, discover student associations, etc.

After this happy and sunny afternoon, the international students were invited to an evening buffet and dancing. Sylvie Retailleau, President of Université Paris-Sud and Sandrine Lacombe, Vice-President of International Relations warmly welcomed them, emphasising the importance of their own international experience in their careers.

After the speeches and having filled up at the buffet, the students willingly hit the dancefloor punctuated by the DJ’s music.

At the end of the evening, this second event was a great success according to the participants.

The date is already set for Welcome Day 2019!
