Paris-Sud University, still among the Top 50 best universities worldwide

On the 15th August, the Jiao Tong University in Shanghai published its Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

Ranked 41st worldwide (up five places from 2016), 10th in Europe and 2nd in France, Paris-Sud University has strengthened its position as a intensive research university of international standing.

This global classification confirms the very good results obtained by Paris-Sud University in thematic rankings. In mathematics, the University was ranked 5th best in the world (2nd in Europe). In physics, Paris-Sud obtained 12th place in the world ranking (2nd in Europe). Finally, Paris-Sud University was ranked in the Top 75 for chemistry, and in the Top 100 in medicine (clinical medicine).

Created in 2003, the Shanghai ranking distinguishes 500 teaching establishments from amongst the 17,000 universities listed worldwide. It takes into account six criteria, including the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields medals won, the number of researchers most cited in their discipline and the number of publications in the scientific journals Nature and Science. In 2017, France remained in 6th place in the worldwide ranking, with 20 establishments being ranked amongst the top 500. Two other French establishments were also in the Top 100:  Pierre and Marie Curie University, ranked 40th, and École normale supérieure de Paris, ranked 69th.

Since 2004, the Paris-Sud University has been classified in the Top 50 best universities worldwide, which reinforces the value and robustness of the broad scientific foundations on which it has built its reputation. In addition to its high-level research focused on understanding the world, the success of its students and the needs of society, the Paris-Sud University can also be proud to be ranked first amongst French universities for the integration of its students as for its PhD students.
