Paris-Sud, top French university among the most innovative in Europe

On the 30th April 2019, Reuters published its quarterly annual ranking of the most innovative universities in Europe, the "Top 100: Europe’s Most Innovative Universities".

KU Leuven of Flemish Belgium remained at the top. The top French establishment was University Paris-Sud, coming at 15th, followed by the Universities of Montpellier (17th) and Paris-Descartes (18th). In terms of country, Germany is in the lead with 23 ranked establishments, followed by the United Kingdom (21) and France (18).

"For determining its ranking of the most innovative universities in Europe, Clarivate Analytics identified over 600 global organisations that publish the most academic research," according to Reuters. "Each candidate is evaluated based on 10 different parameters, especially relating to patent applications and citations of research articles.”

Paris-Sud applied for 170 patents between 2012 and 2017. The institutions in the Top 100 of the most innovative universities in Europe "produce all original research, creating useful technologies that stimulate the world economy,” according to Reuters.
